MakerSpaces are places for hands on learning which promote creativity and innovation. They are flexible spaces to learn new skills, create virtual and physical projects, and collaborate. They encourage STEAM learning for all age groups.
Opened in 2015, the Central Library’s Launch Pad MakerSpace provides patrons the opportunity to explore and create using updated technology, including but not limited to 3D printers, recording studios, virtual/augmented reality technology, and other hands-on equipment. This high-tech space has allowed the Library to expand to include new innovative and unique programming, helping to reinforce school curriculum, while encouraging exploration and discovery.

Objectives:
- Participants will gain a basic working knowledge of MakerSpace technologies.
- Participants will gain a basic working knowledge of a recording studio.
Four Stations:
- 40 min - Recording Studio 1: Audio Recording & Editing
- Will get a basic introduction on how to record and edit audio using Garageband, microphones, audio interfaces, and instruments.
- 40 min - Recording Studio 2: Video Recording & Editing
- Will get a basic introduction on how to record video using a Canon 70D digital camera and Zoom Recorders, and edit the footage using Final Cut Pro.
- 40 min - 3D Printing
- Will get a basic introduction on how 3D printing works and how to print objects using downloaded 3D models.
- 40 min - VR Headsets / Coding & Robotics Gadgets
- Will get to test out various apps using an HTC VIVE, as well as phone app based VR experiences.
- Will get to test various codeable robots, including Dash, Sphero, Ozobots and Cozmo.
Suggested Assignment:
- Create a podcast or video discussing the technology and services offered within the Launch Pad and how they can be utilized as educational resources. Staff will be on hand to assist with any production needs.
